S&T Volunteerism: Outreach to Philippine Regions!
President's Corner
Dear PAASE Members, Partners, and Friends,
As we approach the close of another remarkable year, I am filled with gratitude and pride for what we have accomplished together as a community. 2024 has been a year of collaboration, growth, and resilience for the Philippine-American Academy of Science and Engineering (PAASE). With your support, we have strengthened our commitment to promoting science, technology, and innovation to benefit the Philippines and beyond.
Throughout 2024, PAASE has continued to fulfill its mission through a variety of impactful initiatives:
PAASE Monthly Webinar Series
We launched a dynamic series of webinars featuring esteemed speakers from diverse disciplines. These webinars served as a platform for knowledge sharing and meaningful discussions on topics ranging from health and environmental science to data analytics and advanced manufacturing.
Strengthening Partnerships and Advocacy
PAASE significantly expanded its network through strategic partnerships with key national agencies and academic institutions. Core alliances were established with the Department of Science and Technology and Department of Health, complemented by robust academic partnerships with UP Los Baños and its specialized Zoonoses Center. The organization strengthened scientific networks through collaborations with Pinoy Scientists and STEM Leadership Alliance-PH. On the international front, PAASE developed strong ties with Kaohsiung City, Taiwan, while facilitating groundbreaking tripartite Memoranda of Understanding between Central Mindanao University, Bataan Peninsula State University, and several Taiwanese universities. These collaborations have enhanced our capacity to support scientific research, education, and outreach.
SciEnggJ Revitalization
Our flagship journal, Science, Engineering, and Health Journal (SciEnggJ), has undergone organizational improvements. We are enhancing our operational processes, and incorporating new features to increase its impact factor and visibility.
Engagement and Collaboration
In celebration of Filipino-American History Month, we hosted a series of events spotlighting the contributions of Filipino scientists and engineers in the U.S. and across the globe. These events strengthened ties within our community and fostered greater collaboration with professionals dedicated to advancing Science, Technonogy, and Innovation in the Philippines.
APAMS 2024
PAASE introduced its first Annual PAASE Meeting and symposium (APAMS) 10-Day Caravan, a regional outreach program designed to extend scientific engagement across the Philippines. The caravan connected four major academic hubs: beginning at the University of Rizal System, moving to UP Los Baños, continuing to Batangas State University, and concluding at Eastern Visayas State University. This format brought scientific discussions and networking opportunities directly to local communities, enabling meaningful participation from regional scientists, researchers, and students. The caravan established new channels for collaboration and strengthened PAASE's presence across different regions of the country.
As we move into 2025, PAASE remains committed to expanding its reach and impact. Our goals for the upcoming year include:
Expanding our Webinar Series to cover new and emerging areas of science and technology.
Enhancing SciEnggJ to become a leading publication platform for Filipino and international researchers.
Broadening our Advocacy Efforts to support policies that prioritize Science, Technology, and Innovation for national development.
Strengthening our Membership by engaging with the next generation of scientists and engineers.
None of these accomplishments would have been possible without your dedication, support, and active participation. Let us continue to work together to advance our shared vision of a science driven, progressive Philippines.
As the holiday season approaches, bringing with it the warmth of Christmas festivities and the promise of a new year, I extend my heartfelt wishes to you and your loved ones. May this season bring you moments of joy, reflection, and renewed purpose. Thank you for being an integral part of the PAASE family.
With warmest regards and gratitude,
Dr. Gladys Cherisse J. Completo
