32nd APAMS Highlights

Thank You for all who attended the successful 32nd APAMS in Houston, Texas. I hope you had a great time. University of Houston had been a very generous host and I hope you noticed a successful model in engaging a University Administration to specifically focus on the Philippines. Arnold Guloy, Manny Soriaga, and I personally thank you for taking the time and I hope it has been a memorable trip.


1. Dado Banatao was our Plenary speaker. He is officially a member of PAASE now. With our respective leaderships at PhilDev and PAASE, we can work together and continue our common thrusts.
2. PhilDev Foundation was well represented through Catherine Peterson, Sheila Marcelo, and Winston Damarillo - successful Filipino entrepreneurs and PhilDev Trustees- but cares about advancing science and engineering training. They took the time to engage and meet with us.
3. Successful forum on "Science and Engineering Education Challenges and Opportunities" and " Research Funding and Peer Review" was held with with wide participation from the audience. Roth Bose, UH VP for Research was our second Day Plenary speaker.
4. Members across the PAASE spectrum of academia, government labs, research institutes, and industry attended.
5. UP Administration and DOST was well represented through Giselle Concepcion, Manny Agulto (and crew) and Marilou Orijola.
6. A scientifically stimulating program of oral presentations and posters was held with wide participation and many disciplines.
7. High enthusiasm from Filipino Ph.D. graduate students who have been inspired to meet successful PAASE members.
8. A forward looking PAASE Business meeting - let us carry out our plans.
9. University of Houston hosted a relaxing evening reception with Mark Smith and Jerry Strickland, representing the Administration.
10. Lino Blanche presented plans for th
e 33rd APAMS at Ilocos Norte, Philippines, Don Mariano Marcos State University for 2013.
