RESEARCH INSTITUTES & CENTERS

Ateneo Innovation Center - the mission of the Ateneo Innovation Center is to enhance the Ateneo de Manila University’s functions of teaching, research and outreach by directing these towards the development of innovative S&T solutions of challenges in industry and society.

Center for Integrative & Development Studies (UPCIDS) - UPCIDS was established in 1985 by the University of the Philippines Board of Regents; one of its mandates is todevelop, organize and manage research issues of national significance, which, because of their importance and inherent complexity require an integrative and collaborative approach and research methodologies and skills of greater sophistication.

Central Visayan Institute Foundation (CVIF) - CVIF traces its roots to a high school opened by an American educator in 1925 in the town of Duero, Bohol.  It currently has a High School Department, a Research Center for Theoretical Physics, and an Education Research Center.

International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) - is a non-profit independent research and training organization and is a part of the Consultative Group on International Agriculture (CGIAR).


National Fisheries Research and Development Institute (NFRDI) NFRDI was created under Republic Act 8550 otherwise known as the Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998.  Its vision is to establish an effective, relevant and responsive Philippine fisheries research and development institution towards an industry that is sustainable and globally competitive.

National Institute of Geological Sciences (NIGS) - NIGS was created in 1983 by Presidential Executive Order 889 and was organized from the Geology Section of the formerDepartment of Geology and Geography of the College of Arts and Sciences in the University of the Philippines Diliman.

National Institute of Molecular Biology & Biotechnology - The NIMBB is a research institute based at University of the Philippines Los Baños and has branches in UP Diliman, UP Manila, and UP Visayas.

National Institute of Physics - a Presidential Executive Order in 1983 transformed the then Department of Physics of the University of the Philippines Diliman into a national institute.

National Institute for Science and Mathematics Education Development (NISMED) - is an extension arm of the University of the Philippines whose goal is to raise the level of science and mathematics education in the Philippines at the basic and teacher education levels.

National Institutes of Health (NIH)was created on January 26, 1996 by the University of the Philippines Board of Regents to strengthen the research facility of UP Manila, and serve as an institutional home of a network of researchers and research institutions.  It was established as a national health center in 1998 under Republic Act 8503.

Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) - was created in 1989 under Senate Bill 1165 entitled, "An Act Creating the Philippine Carabao Center to Propagate and Promote the Philippine Carabao and for Other Purposes”.  In 1992 the Philippine Carabao Act or Republic Act 7307 was signed into law.

Philippine National Ear Institute (PNEI)is an influential government agency for national health policy formulation in hearing and balance health.One of the most comprehensive diagnostic and research center for hearing loss in all age groups - infants to elderly patients.

Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI) - is mandated toundertake research and development activities in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, to institute regulations on the said uses and to carry out the enforcement of said regulations to protect the health and safety of radiation workers and the general public.  Republic act 2067 (Science Act of 1958) created the Philippine Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) which became PNRI in 1987 when the former National Science and Technology Authority was reorganized to the Department of Science and Technology.

Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) - was established in 1985 under Executive Order 1061.  It was originally based in the University of the Philippines Los Banos campus and moved to Munoz, Nueva Ecija in 1990.  Its vision is a self-sufficient, sustainable, and competitive rice economy through a responsive rice R&D system and a strong, innovative science- and technology-base.

Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) is a research institute under the Department of Health whose goals areto undertake research in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of tropical diseases of public health importance and to produce vaccines for the control of vaccine-preventable diseases.

Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) - was established by the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) in 1966 to provide  high quality graduate study in agriculture; promote, undertake, and coordinate research programs related to the needs and problems of the Southeast Asian region; and disseminate the findings of agricultural research and experimentation.
